"Understated elegance, a quiet refuge, a timeless beauty, an historic jewel" As featured in the San Diego Home and Garden Lifestyle Magazine, this wonderful historic and design class "must see" cottage is located on both the Historic La Jolla Walking Tour and San Diego Home and Garden Tour. Designed in 1923 and built in 1924 by a world traveler from New Zealand, it was the first cottage built on an isolated block just south of the village of La Jolla. It stood alone for many years before many more southern wanderers moved into La Jolla to build their own retreats. La Jolla Cove Cottage has been in the Barton Family since 1957. Our motivation for offering this lovely home as a vacation rental is to generate funding to preserve and maintain it for a few more generations to come. Each night the sun slipping into the horizon can be witnessed from every oceanside room in the cottage. On the grassy cliff across from the property, picnickers clap their hands as the sun sets on another day. Yet from the private balcony it feels as if you are the only people in the theater watching this drama every night. Generous accommodations for a maximum of 6 include 2 bedrooms (queen & king), 2 sleeping-size sofas, small study with 2 convertible twin-sized bed chairs, 2 baths, kitchen, diningroom, livingroom, reading den, patio, balcony, swim shower and laundry. Your stay in the cottage will be a great and memorable experience. Unique architecture, beautiful gardens, full ocean views, wonderful books, elegant furnishings, and historical artifacts will intrigue the curious guest. Come to our home and make it your own for a bit of heaven. We are currently in the process of compiling an anthology for publication titled "Love Stories From the Cliff," a collection of personal stories about the magic of the cliffs, how time somehow stops here, and how lives are enriched by a little patch of grass on a beautiful stretch of coastline in California.
